If you are caring for a child with respiratory problems resulting from a disease such as asthma, bronchitis or cystic fibrosis, each treatment lasts 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the drug and the condition of the child. Parents have three options to administer a nebulizer treatment. The preferred method for infants and toddlers is to use an aerosol mask, but the child can not tolerate the mask. An alternative is the blow-by method, in which the parent directs the aerosolized medication to the child's nose and mouth. Although this method is less efficient than using a mask, it is preferable fighting with a child who has breathing problems. The third method, often used for children over 5 years who can cooperate, is to use a mouthpiece and reservoir tube. Here I'll show how to teach a parent about the three methods. The steps may vary slightly depending on computer models, so check the manufacturer's instructions before proceeding.
